AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! I broke a needle!

I broke a needle! And of course it's not a new one that I could get replaced. It's one of my plastic ones from a Thrift Shop, that the don't make any longer! WWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been carrying them in my purse, in a zip lock for months. For some reason, I guess I have been rough on my contents lately, because I have gone to work on a sock twice in the last week or so, and found stitches had slipped off the needle in two different socks. And now this! ARGH!!

On a happier note . . . I wanted to say a great big THANK YOU to all my blog buddies who have sent good wishes, and shared their surgery stories. It's nice to feel all that cyber love. Thanks again!

  1. LDSVenus: I'm sooo sorry your needle broke, I understand when you get attached to some that work well for you. Since they are plastic can it be superglued, then sanded down a bit at the glue site? I'd check ebay under plastic needles too. When you put them in your purse try putting them in a cloth needle case, they might help keep the stitches on better and buffer the needles against the buffeting :), I've seen handmade ones that werent very big.

Dilys S: Nooooooo!!!! Oh, that's too bad! I only use metal needles for my socks, and they're getting a bit bent here and there. If they were plastic, I bet I'd have broken them many times over! Good luck finding replacements of some sort.

Joansie: I have my favorite needles also and it's amazing how we know what "works" for us.

rachel: I think Bryspun mkes plastic double points. I also remember there were dp needles called Pony Pearls. Maybe you can see if you can find some of those. So sorry that it broke. I always use metal dps because I always broke the wood ones. (I am a tight knitter). Hope you can find something comparable to the one you lost!

Lizzie: Try sanding the end to make a point. I did that with several of my wooden ones to make shorter but serviceable needles. It's worth trying with plastic. I know the Denise interchangeables can be sanded to make the points a bit sharper....

Bobbi C: AWWW Tammy, and I liked your needles too. What size are they and I will look for them at the thrift stores here too. One neat needle I am using lately in plastic is the comfort zone ones; they are very flexible and come in a wide variety of colors. I asked the lady who sells them to tell her brother to make them in turquoise, and she said she would let him know. I have all sorts of colors. However, I have to admit, since I am doing most of the stockinette in circulars, I generally only use the DP's for the cuffs. I keep some 5"Bryspuns in my purse at all times.

Stephanie: :(( I had an ebony break once, and I used a pencil sharpener to shape the broken end. Worked nicely -- I like the point better than the originals -- but I don't know about plastic. I'll keep an eyeball open around here, do you know what sort they were?
